Mosin Nagant Head space
Hello all.
I have 1942 Nagant , which I'm looking to reload for. Should I be looking to fully resize the cases?
Does the Nagant head space on the rim or it's shoulder of the case..
Thanks in advance for your time on this.
Gary.

I have been reloading for the Mosin for quite some years and always only made a neck sizing.
No need to go full.
Being rimmed, it should head-space on it.

You are neck sizing only ? That means you are headspacing on the shoulder , not the rim . Since most have chambers that are much larger than the current cases , neck sizing will help your case life .

Thanks for your replies.
As it goes, I have RCBS reloading dies, can I use these to neck size if slacken the die one turn as I do with other dies? Or do I have get a specific neck sizing die?
Thanks for your time on this.

I use the same dies for neck sizing.
Put the case in the shell holder and raise it completely, then screw in the sizing die.
When it touches the case, lower it and give a full turn to the die. Raise the case and look how deep you got (I can’t recall the number of turns I gave, sorry). Keep doing it until you reach the sizing depth you want, then tighten the small hex-screw to fix the adjustment.
Very simple, and works great.

Hey guys,
I don't mean to hyjack this thread. I've always full length resized my brass and annealed my batch after 3 or 4 fires. Is a neck resize all it really needs? Do the rounds chamber smoothly? I have more than one rifle though, that's why I always full length resized.

Neck resizing prolongs case life. If you have several same caliber rifles, you should have a load that works best in each one and keep the cases separate?

I have a few Mosins myself and segregate all the brass. Each rifle gets his own and his own only. So I can neck size and be happy.

I have two 91/30's and mine is simplified, I have one round receiver and one hex receiver. So I have two full length resizing dies, one set for full length sizing and the other I use to neck size my fired cases. Then I segregate by receiver shape.
