1944 Waterproof Clothing Bag

Picked one of these up at a yard sale today. Well marked. What exactly were they used for?

I can assume they were for field use to keep your clothes dry but that makes too much sense. Plus I was taught to never assume. You can get a lot more in these than would fit in the haversack.

56 people read this and no one knows what these were used for? Obviously it's for clothing but for garrison use? Would you need a waterproof bag for garrison use. Seems you would need it for field use but as I mentioned, this would not fit inside a rucksack if it were full. I guess you could put some things into it and put them in to keep them dry. Only paid $2 for it, more as a curiosity but should i include it in my displays?

I had something similar when I was in the service but Alice packs are huge compared to WWII issue.

As much as I know this is a waterproof clothing bag which is used to keep clothes dry.

The waterproof bag was issued as part of the TA-50 equipment issue. It was not part of the initial uniform issue as was the laundry bag. We were required to to have an duffel A-bag for deployments, packed at all times. This bag was used for packing additional clothes and gear for extended stays in the field. The waterproof bag would be used inside the the duffle bag. In units that were not issued rucksacks, the sleeping bags and pup tents would be placed in the A-bag. These bags would be placed in unit deuce and halves and hauled around in the field. The A-bags would be subjected to all kinds of weather so the necessity of waterproof bags is obvious. Many of us purchased additional bags to cover the sleeping bag.

Looking at the punctuation, is that a waterproof bag for clothing, or a bag for waterproof clothing? I think Bear has the answers.

I never took a photo of it and not sure where I put it now. Didn't find it all that exciting, just wanted to learn whether it would be with soldiers in combat in the field or more of a rear area type thing. I'll try and locate it, it's in one of two rooms upstairs, in one of many boxes.

Has Bag, Waterproof clothing on it and the date 1944. I remember that much, it's how I identified it. Probably the manufacturer also, not the later number designations like the one from Vietnam.
