bros--
The Pattern 1914 is a MKI* and it appears to be all matching including a Winchester P13 bayonet! The rifle has NOT been through the Weedon process. Other then the front volley sight bits missing it is a nice clean rifle and well worth $1,000 CAN.
Cheers

Bros: I would tend to agree with frjuple but I think there is a possibility the stock has been lightly sanded. Perhaps it's the quality of the photo but it would be nice to see the original factory marks on the right butt. In any case, with bayonet included and very good bore it would be a reasonable price for a non-Weedon rifle

The rifle is a post 12/16 build. It came from the factory as a MkI* and never required a Weedon refit. Check the barrel date, it's marked '17. As such the later built rifles tend to be more original than the earlier ones. The fact that these were never front line rifles has kept them in better condition than a No1 of the same time period. As I said earlier there are many factory original MkI*'s floating around out there untouched by the Weedon process because it wasn't necessary.
Based on the serial number being somewhat high at 192,000 with only 225,000 made by Winchester my guess is this rifle was made between late 3/17 and early 4/17.
The fact that this rifle is marked with the BM under crown and .303 Nitro Proof means it was reproofed for sale to the British domestic market. Thank goodness this beautiful rifle didn't find itself under the chop saw during the confiscation, um I mean voluntarily turn-in period.
As a side note the bayonet is an October 1916 build so it doesn't exactly match but I don't believe that they were issued as matching sets anyway so it doesn't really matter.

It was mentioned by a respected Milsurp member that this stock has had the living daylights sanded out of it......I'm afraid I agree. That's a shame!!!!!

I have a been acquiring p14 stocks for a while now and pretty much all have the tell tale Weedon Repair Standard stamping on the underside on the stock to the rear of the hand grip. Usually a Star and a letter (eg E for RSAF Enfield) to denote where the WRS was undertaken. Like you mention this stock has been sanded fairly significantly, so I am thinking it is a WRS stock and someone has added the brass ID disk back in. A picture of the underside of the stock to the rear of the trigger guard would confirm WRS status.

Agreed especially around the top of butt plate area probably to remove cosmoline soaked wood instead of soaking the end the buttstock in acetone to get the oil/cosmoline out the wood. A shame. It is still worth $1,000 Can with the bayonet.

I purchased it. Seller mentioned the only part that is not Winchester is the butt plate.....just maybe that gap will tighten up a little with the proper Winchester one as I understand that there were differences between similar parts from the various manufacturers. Thats probably wishful thinking though......it's only a butt plate and one would think that if any parts would be close in tolerance would be simple butt plates. I'll update the thread with the severity of the sanding when it arrives in the mail. Now the hunt starts for a Winchester marked butt plate.....I'm not expecting that to be a difficult item to track down.
Cheers to all.

They are always showing up on Ebay also. I don't think it's going to make much of a difference changing buttplates though the wood is gone forever.

Differences. Especially Winchesters even during production.
