maybe there were rack or unit numbers (foreign or domestic) that were removed to eliminate confusion?
Ever notice that the K.art returns have numbers removed?
Some country's when they returned items wanted their marking scrubbed.
Oh, BTW Cinders an full tank is far less impressive then a near empty tank when it goes boom!

When I was working for Shell oil as a film demo they left an open 5 liter tin which was half full of petrol in a car with all the windows up for about an hour in the hot sun then remote ignited it it blew the car to bits.
I have often pondered what posses bubba to do 2 things take no care in the removal of wood and like blending it in and covering every bit of stock and fittings some times with layers and layers of high gloss varnish I just do not get it........

Some of the Korean stocks had similar look to this to get rid of the paint marks. I don't know if that's what it actually is or not, but it sort of looks like it. I know many of the Korean stocks I've seen for sale look like they've been hit with a belt sander to varying degrees. I'm not talking about this one, but it's a shame what's being done to many of these old military issue wooden stocks I see for sale. I wish sellers would just leave them alone and sell the things as is, that way the buyer, who you'd hope has a clue, can do what they want to with it.

I bought an M14 stock like that once and resurrected it quite nicely...for $4. Turned out about perfect.

That's a pretty common place Winchester stamped their stocks, especially the later ones it seems.

Finally after a month of looking everyday I found a decent Stock for this twice Stamped S/N Winchester. The Stock it came with had so many unusual markings and had been scraped and since there is a issue with the value cause of twice stamped s/n to me is find. Its been lightly sanded but that's all No Cracks, Splits or Repairs.

Did Winchester stop putting the Letters WRA/GHD at some point on there Stocks ?
I bought a Second Stock well its more like I placed a bid on one and no one else did and I won it before I bought this one. It's not here here yet, but the Couple picture's he sent me just have the Ordnance Wheel and has the wide bottom that Winchester Stocks are known to have. Also it has a W in the Sling Well right where the Stock I just posted above has it. I couldn't find anything about it, but have seen a couple on the Internet without them. Thanks

About March or April of 44 Winchester dropped the WRA over GHD stamp and went with a crossed cannons only cartouche.
