I must be confused cinders. This thing has a plastic butt plate and no trap door, i cannot fathom why anyone would put an oil bottle in the butt of a small bore target rifle

Thats K I was as well, seeing as I was thinking Martini cadet its been a confusing week here as I have just found out my 22/250 has a long throated chamber and if I seat them at 2.350 COAL they are jumping @200 thou I lost @100 projectiles as they were in that tight the collet puller just destroyed the projectile. Anyway sorry my mistake I should have looked up the type lesson learned.

Okay, i think i know whats going on. There appears to be a fishing sinker (yes, a fishing sinker) stuck in the recess on top of the stock bolt nut, which is why i cant get a screw driver to seat.
I guess someone filled it up at some stage to get some weight in the back end

Got it out, it was a fishing sinker jammed in the nut. The wife suggested i throw it in the deep freeze for half an hour. Few soft taps against a towel on the concrete floor and the damn thing shot straight out!

Sounds like they had the lead in there to counterbalance for offhand shooting? That would be my guess. Glad you got it sorted. Maybe pics after you have it done?

Sure thing. This is just a good cleanup, but the stock needs redoing.
i had planned for a rebluing job, but i managed to get nearly all the surface rust off without damaging it
The forend is pretty rough so im having a rail fitted, its not really going to effect the value. Ive managed to refurb PH25B sight myself
Stupid me didnt take before pics
