I heard and have read that some were converted to 308. I may look for one of those as I can get it(ammo) often and cheap and it's not so overwhelmingly confusing for some one like me who is easily confused. It would seem that in WWII the axis soldier when he got ammo had to have a book to check and make sure he had the right stuff as with all these variations would drive the suppliers crazy. I don't know the history but I'm sure when things got desperate they dug deep into their stores and brought out the old rifles and I would imagine the ammo was a problem?
