Protruding Fired Primers

As SlamFire said, looks like low pressure, I get the same results while working up loads. Be careful with higher loads, you dont want to bend your op rod.

I get some primer protrusion sometimes, but I do not worry about it as long as head space is okay. In fact I like the idea that my cases did not strech.

It could be that the primer pockets are worn from excessive reloadings. How many times have these cases been fired/reloaded? I don't see a problem with your load data. I use 47 grs of IMR or H 4895 and either 150's or 168's on bullet weight. The only primers that back out on me are the ones with worn primer pockets. When that happens they're trash can fodder.

Purchase a field headspace gauge and then you'll know for sure if the headspace is within spec's or not. My first Krag had primers backing out about 0.009, and I also got on the forum and started asking questions. Finally took the advice about a field gauge, and found that the bolt did indeed close on it. Purchased a new bolt, and it doesn't even come close to closing on the field gauge. Fired the rifle and no primer extrusion at all. I was and am one satisfied customer.

Excellent advice "Super Dave" However did try same loads in two other CMP Garands with like results. BUT---Have since determined that the fault is mine and mine only. Primer MIX UP!!!!!! Primers that backed out were "Fed Match" a real no--no--. Have since fired same load with CCI primers, same rifles with no protusion. Am now in process of reorganizing. Feds are for the bolts only. Thanks everyone for the valuable input. --And I'm old enough to know better---

Might not hurt to check the calibration of your scale and or powder measure if you haven't already done so.

How many times have the cases been reloaded? If the primers don't fit tightly in the pockets due to excessive reloadings they'll back out no matter what the pressure is/was. If the primers don't fit tightly it's time to toss the case(s).

I got it when I loaded some really light 308....39.5g Varget but, that was in my bolt gun. Accuracy was unbelievable with Horaday 150 FMJBT. But, it was clearly a very mild load. I was wondering if your scale is calibrated? Did you check it with weights?
