C Stocks

The owner of Dupage flew up to Boyd's last year and spent a week re-designing Boyd's wood. They are now very well done stocks. I have 2 of their new wood and am very happy with them. I have 1 of the older stocks and it will not fit, true, but sorry for me. Don't know what to do with it, either.

I got a 1903 stock from CMP with an A3 stock on the way. The stock I have looks to be well done, beautifull wood and all inletting done correctly with the exception of the little joggle where the front of sight base sets. It has to be extended .125. Other than that, I'm very happy with it.

How much would an origional military C-stock bring? How about a Rock Island 1903 with C-stock in the 4XX,XXX serial number range bring?

I got a CMP "C" stock last fall for my best 03 shooter and was well pleased. The only fitting required was at the rear of the handguard which sandpaper took care of.

Fine looking rifle. What are the markings on the top and bottom of the bolt handle root?

See that your rifle has a Booher handguard. Think that company's guard has the least attractive profile of all. You can get an original NOS Remington handguard from Bill Ricca for twelve bucks I think. You won't believe how much changing out that guard will improve the profile of your rifle.

I did just that recently and was very happy to be rid of the "Booger" handguard. It works, but ruins the rifle's sleek lines. Cheap experiment.
Made me happy.

Just my humor at work. Don't like Booher handguards so I refer to them as "Booger" handguards.

I wouldn't have replaced the one I had on a rifle if I hadn't known the stock was swapped. I keep rearsenaled rifles as is, but this was a special case and no guilt involved. Rifle looks a whole lot better with the NOS guard I got from Bill and got lucky and matched the color of the stock perfectly. If you didn't know the details you'd never know I replaced the handguard with a better looking one. No disrespect was intended.

The handguard in the picture came with the stock set from the CMP so I probably won't change it although I have two new WW2 vintage replacement 03 handguards to choose from if I ever get the urge. As for how does it shoot, I have six 03s and two 0sA3s and this is the best shooter of the bunch. It was 2006 CMP greasy Greek bought at the North Store, has a 1922 vintage receiver, a barrel Marked SA 10-42 which gauges near new and a bolt marked BF/47, all of which indicate a WW2 rebuild. It shoots as good or better with the new stock as it did with the old fingergroove stock and is much more comfortable to shoot. It's also the rifle I keep loaded (nothing in chamber, cut-off in "off" position) in my bedroom as "Bear Medicine". I live in a semi-rural area and have frequent bear visits in the back yard so this is a prudent precaution.
