usgicollector, what does this S.G. have for a barrel? If the receiver was sent to Grand Rapids for completion it would probably have either an Underwood or Buffalo Arms barrel. If the barrel is a Saginaw it was probably assembled by S.G.

My guess would be that unless they happened to get a Saginaw replacement barrel when they were rebuilt they were both assembled by S.G. in their Saginaw, Mich. plant.
Due to the fact that USGI M1icon carbine ammo is non-corrosive an M1 carbine is much more likely to have an original barrel than an M1 Garand so whenever there's a question relative to "born on" date for an M1 carbine any and all barrel info can be very useful. Also, if you contribute your M1 carbine serial # to a database please consider including the barrel info as well.

On 03-03-43 The Saginaw plant requested 200 sight bases and leafs from the Grand Rapids plant. It might be the pictures but something about the sight just doesn't quite look right and I can't put my finger on it.

The rifle is exactly as received it from the CMPicon except for the push safety which I changed. I did nothing to the rear sight.

Dave I'm not saying you did anything to it but someone somewhere along the line did. The S'G' or IP marked rear sights sent to S.G. would have been used long before your carbine was made. But the rear sight could very well have been changed later because of damage to the original. It does make your carbine look real nice for sure.
