The stake marks are not damaged like when a sight is removed and reinstalled, that is why I was questioning this sight. The other 3 bavarians I bought all have the correct rear sight on them. I guess It could be a replacement sight, but I tend to think this is original. I will take some better pics of the rest of the rifle and the stake marks in particular. Thanks for the input.

usgicollector, what does this S.G. have for a barrel? If the receiver was sent to Grand Rapids for completion it would probably have either an Underwood or Buffalo Arms barrel. If the barrel is a Saginaw it was probably assembled by S.G.

On 03-03-43 The Saginaw plant requested 200 sight bases and leafs from the Grand Rapids plant. It might be the pictures but something about the sight just doesn't quite look right and I can't put my finger on it.

The rifle is exactly as received it from the CMP
except for the push safety which I changed. I did nothing to the rear sight.

Dave I'm not saying you did anything to it but someone somewhere along the line did. The S'G' or IP marked rear sights sent to S.G. would have been used long before your carbine was made. But the rear sight could very well have been changed later because of damage to the original. It does make your carbine look real nice for sure.
