When DP P14 rifles were available for $25.00 to $35.00 each I built a number of rifles on the actions.Largest round was .416 Rigby.I also did .375 H&H,6.5X68,8X68,.338 Lapua,7X66 Vom Hofe, and 7X68 Askins. The receiver rails will require extensive work to get most rounds to feed.Best magazine box to use is the magnum box sold by Gun Parts Corporation.P14 bolts are correct bolt face size for most belted magnums.I also built a pair of .30 belted Newtons on the actions.

A 45-70 will feed and function on the P14 without any fuzz.

A P14 action can be used to to build almost any caliber rifle, even up to a.500 Jefery. It was designed to fire a very high pressure cartridge.
At the end of the day it is always better to leave an old milsurp as is, in it's original form.

Gentlemen, I would draw your attention the the fact that back during the great sporterizing rush of the 1960's many of the Eddystone receivers CRACKED during barrel removal. It was discovered that they were improperly heat treated to the extent they were brittle. Also when P.O.Ackley conducted his tests of military action strength, the 17 Enfields let loose rather quickly prompting Ackley to comment about his surprise at this fact after hearing of the "legendary" strength of the 1917 Enfield. You can find the results of his tests in his Handbook for Shooters & Reloaders. It is on page 1 of Volume 2. You will be surprised to discover which military action actually was proved to be the "strongest".

True, but we are talking about the Pattern 14 receivers, not 17.
