    If that screw is snugged up tight, it locks the elevation. Do not try to change the elevation with the screw tight.

    I cinfirm: it is snugged tight. So to change elevation i have to slacken it..

    Yes. Loosen it off, push it in hard, and lift the assembly out. You will be able to see how the half threads engage the elevation screw. If the screw is locked down, forcibly twisting the elevation knob is not good. Leave it backed off when adjusting.

    Now, i'm discovering how it works...I can press this screw after loosen it but no movement could occour in ste assembly. Slowly i'll understand this , also (I hope).

    You've got it. The upper assembly can be removed for transport or storage, and the sight can be locked on an elevation setting if desired. In normal use, the screw is kept slacked off. These are precision sights, made for serious target competition. Fortunately, the rules of the day prohibited alteration of the rifle in order to mount target sights, so the sights can be readily installed on any rifle. Don't worry about the range scale in yards. Learn to use the minute of angle Vernier scale for elevation and windage adjustments. Makes precise, repeatable adjustments easy.
