    The above would not be my choice either.
    White lights and visible lasers draws enemy fire. Probably OK against gangstas in Chicago and Detriot but not in a combat zone. We had several FBI agents show up in Ramadi with them and they drew enemy fire like bees to honey.

    I've also seen images of the cleaning rod being carried in the barrel of the rifle, obviously merely for a convenient way of carrying the rod when not in combat. I sure wouldn't go into combat with anything attached to my rifle that wasn't meant to be.

    It look like he took a muzzle cover and cut away the " bag " part . The strap / edging is what he's using to hold the rod on the gun . Up front , anyway .
