That was just stupid.!!! When we would steal bikes as a kid we had enough sense to go to a different neighborhood and spray paint the thing within an hour.

Vincent, you don't need a serial number if you build a rifle for yourself right? Ak flats and 80% AR lowers and such?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... That's correct. No serial number is required if you build it for yourself. It cannot be sold for profit.

Imported Ak front trunnions usually have a serial number on them. I think that has to be left intact. The new US made front trunnions don't have a serial number.

I personally have no problem showing the S/N of my guns, they were all obtained legally. If I purchase a gun I want to see the S/N or if I see a gun on display I want to see the entire S/N. The serial number is part of the history of any particular gun and its manufacturer. Serial numbers are interesting and some collectors will be more apt to purchase a gun if it has a low number, a consecutive number to one he already owns or it is just a very unique number. So, IMO the S/N is part of the overall gun and it should be on display.

might be a legitimate concern if you think you bought a stolen item - yes there are many out there , but generally i dont fear it as most every i have can be traced eventually through the FFl i processed it through , just me thinking the government already know what i have and knowing where im at when you come through my door ,

I'm sure most folks don't suspect the gun they have was stolen. But who knows, 10, 20, 30, years ago, a gun you have might have been stolen and placed into the system. I just mentioned to address the topic as that could be the case why some folks don't do the whole number.
In my case, I've always entered the full serial numbers. But don't think, it's not in the back of my mind that after I post the number that what if, it comes back that the gun had been stolen, Ray
