I bought 2 of the Remington R1 models new about a year after they came out, IIRC advertised as Remington 100 years celebration of the Colt design. The R1's were just the plain jane versions, which I liked since they looked more authentic except for the large Scripted R1 on the slide. One was going to be a gift and I planned to keep one to beat on to save wear on my more expensive models. First outing I can't remember was hitting high or low but it was eating everything I tried- Hollow point, FMJ Ball and Lead. Feeding was great, Ejection was even better! Called Remington about the frt sight and they sent me out a replacement 3 piece frt sight set for both including- short, taller, tallest blades. I never got the chance to give the extra one away so I still have both. I purchased thru our buyers group and had less than $1,000 for the 2. I don't have a complaint, though 1 has much more use on it, the other is a extra for friends of family.

So my point is I know some of the inexpensive 11's can keep you happy.

More or less the same here, at the range I often use a STI "Spartan", although is not exactly like a basic USGI 1911A1 it didn't cost a fortune, works to perfection and I avoid shooting my collectibles.

A neighbor just this past weekend showed me a STI SPARTAN IV he had picked up as 'Lightly Used' a few weeks ago. First STI I've ever held. I thought it was brand new. Had a Chrome Bull barrel, I don't believe it was ramped..... but don't really remember. It felt tight as new. I liked the competition style sights, Hi-Rise beavertail and what I call a Long Curve Trigger. He hadn't shot it yet..... needing .45 ammo. I gave him a 100rds. I'll probably see him this weekend out working in the yard, I'll ask if he shot it.
I liked the fit for a Commander sized 1911, the Hi-Rise beavertail allowed for my bigger hands better than the lower beavertails. Long Trigger curve also allowed for a good fit.
He'd paid $550 for it...... Or so he said. If he really did pay $550, seeing the condition, I'd say he got a great deal on it. The SPARTAN markings on the slide didn't jump out at you and looked pretty Subtle with the grey parked finish.
Exactly the types of .45's I like to play with, while 'Investment' guns are safe at home.
Checkered Grips were still a little sharp....... Just needing some handling. No signs of it being holstered.... Yet
I'll have to try his and look in to what they do sell for. He's the type that gets bored with his hand guns and will sell or offer to sell soon enough..

I just purchased the Tisas .45. I have a number of other Colts plus Springfields and original U.S. property marked 1911 and 1911A1s. Good looking .45 from the outside as I haven’t taken it apart for cleaning and lube plus breaking it in. One thing.... it has the strongest recoil spring I have ever encountered. Does anyone suggest changing the springs out for comp springs or anything like that. They also have a 9mm in the 1911 style. What do you think of the 9mm?

I picked up a Rock Island 1911A1. Put WW2 brown grips and an arched mainspring housing with a lanyard ring. Looks and shoots great. I had one about 7 or 8 years ago and carried it on a Homeland Security Critical Infrastructure protection contract. Used it an an AR15 patrolling dams and powerhouses in the mountains. I always place in the top on qualifications with it.

I purchased both the .45ACP and 9mm. I fired a couple of hundred round thru both to break them in. No issues whatever. The .45 required a strong hand. Other than that, I’m a happy camper.

I use the Norinco 1911A1 at the range,older version with very little stamping. Nighthawk springs except for the original 1911 mainspring housing I used for the lanyard ring look. Repro grips and some rebluing. It is a great value for what you get as these others are. Hard to beat the fun of a .45.
I just picked up the Canadian Colt "contract". #10XXX. The SW 455 I have not taken to the range yet. Range finally opened today!

All 1918 dates for the pistol belt , Pre WW1 for the Sam Browne.
