Importing Section 7.1 pistol from Canada to the UK

I'm thinking he needs to contact the witches or black magic that handle these "Proofs" to clarify... The USA exporter sounds like the easy part.

The Section 5 RFD that will have to handle the import will know whether it will need to go for proof or not, prior to passing onto the OP.

OP, have you contacted a UK Section 5 RFD yet?

Hi yes have a Section 5 dealer who can receive this to add onto my FAC. I have seen the various comments on proof and given this is a historic pistol I am hoping that if it does need to be proofed then they can issue a certificate. I do not want modern proof marks on a rare pistol.

They should be able to issue a certificate instead, or at least a very discreet stamp...

I'll hazard a guess, are you fishing for a 1911 chambered in.455?

It would have to be proved, either way (unless its been UK proved in the past, and not obviously out of proof). As s.7[1] guns 'could' be fired, and they can migrate between the two categories.
They don't issue 'certificate of proof' anymore, that was only ever a concession.

That's a shame, so they have to be obviously stamped, even if it's a rare antique...

It was bad enough on my Lithgow L1A1, they went absolutely bloody Bananas with the stamp (London proof house) hit 'everything' with it!

You should see the black powder proof markings they smear all over 1890s antiques!

Both Section & (1) or (3) will have to be proofed.

Its normally a condition on the import license as well, and a question when applying for the license. The responsibility sits with the importer.

Birmingham will do minimal marks & put a proof mark under the Grips and issue a Certificate at extra cost.

I have just had several Lugers, High Power & Colt 1911 proofed at London.

They hid most of the markings inside the pistols so there was nothing really to see externally. The customer complained his pistol wasn't proofed and went away happy when we showed them where they were.

EU Imports of Section 5 are getting harder as some EU countries want a End Users Certificate endorsed by the UK Import Licensing which they don't do. Its a bit of a stalemate at the moment.

Interesting Simon, so they actually have .455 proof rounds on the shelf still...

I've always found Birmingham to be easier to deal with personally.
