If you have no interest in it then don't read the thread.
Fair enough but have you also considered that some of us might have been interested in it before it was posted on here. Suddenly there's another 35 folk watching it on EB and it's getting pricey.
There are of course differing views about highlighting such listings on forums like this - yes it's informational/helpful to members who maybe looking for something specific, but equally, increasing awareness in this way often drives up the price through increased competition largely to the benefit of the seller. I admit that I have done similar in the past and flagged things up on here that were for sale elsewhere but my view has changed and if I do so now it would only be where something of potential interest to members here was being offered at a fixed price.
On other enthusiast forums (eg military watches) it's often the case that posts and/or links about auction items on external sites are disallowed until the auction has ended, an approach which I think is fair and reasonable.

I was under the impression that that was a 'rule' on this forum - it certainly is (and is enforced) on other Lee Enfield forums I have frequented.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Re the difficulty in opening the No8 case when the sling is fitted. If the snipers did what the instructors told/advised them to do on the first day of the course, when they were looking at the kit they would be using on the course, they'd pull out the leather sling and replace it with a thinner, webbing 37 or 44 pattern cross strap. End of problem!
I had a repro sling strap made for my No. 8 can. My impression is that this a "belt+braces" situation, where the sling holds the case closed in the event the latches quit or are forgotten.

I'm not sure what you don't understand about public auction.
eBay is not some sort of confidential auction site.
