When I get the time I'm going to remove the "Boattail" off .312 HPBT Hornadays which in theory will leave me with a flat based bullet of unknown weight as of now. I shall test them in Mosin Nagant,No3 MK1,Type 99. Ya never know til you try....

Good Brass for reloading .303British?
I have the choice here in NZ of Federal or privi brass. Otherwise highalnd AX ammo, shoot and reload but I think its prvi and the empty privi brass is the same price as 100 rounds of highland AX!. Otherwise winchester X, shoot and reload.

Seems like an exceedingly bad idea, mostly because it could lead to having a jacket lodged in the barrel. Nice bore obstruction, that.

I tried last weekend didn't work only because I couldn't make the cut square. The bullet came out at roughly 143g with the "Boattail" cut off. A lathe would do the the job well.
I did think of the jacket issue but I figure the friction of the bore pushing "on" the jacket and the force of the charge from behind will keep it on a least til it leaves the bore.
It's just a "I wonder" thing,,,,

Does it need much prep? ie neck turning, primer pocket cleaning? Here Remmington 303 brass is $60 for 50, winchester is $60 for 50 or Privy is $80 for 50. I want 200 so that would save me $80(NZD). So I need to decide what to buy....I'll pay more for the Privy if its better ie lasts longer.

The PRVI will definately last longer. I use a lot of 300 cases since i have first bought them 5 years ago. This year i need to replace some of them. Fire them shorten them to 0.10mm shorter than the standard measurement is and do necksizing as long as possible.

PRVI brass has a ticker rim so it reduce headspace. Only problem i could see using PRVI brass is the firing hole: it's too large and it give me larger standard deviation than remington brass. Brass quality is not so good, it's harder than western brass. In my humble opinion.

I can only give you my experiences and they are good with PRVI. I used the S&B but they aren´t that good. After a maximum of 3 reloding turns, they tend to crack. Remington is good, but expensive over here.
