I've been doing it for years with no problems other than my M1a wouldn't run with RG L2A2. It short stroked and accuracy was horrible. It sat forgotten in the ammo locker until I got my L42 a couple years ago. It seems to like it just fine. Must be a Brit thing.
Similar arguments can be found concerning the interchangeability of 223 and 5.56mm but I've done that too for years with no worries. Think I'll get my helmet and flak jacket and head for the dugout before the shells start raining down.
