While the Capt. is entirely entitled to his opinion and his lifestyle, unfortunately we live in the 21st Century and there are some things that even the most unforgiving of us must adhere to.
Hey, he IS posting on a 21st Century computer (unless he is using a 286), he is traversing the internet, a truly amazing and modern concept, even if it was invented by Al Gore. There are times when a credit card is a must, unless one wants to go inside that gas station every time to pay his bill and deal with those totally ignorant dunderheads.
Like it or not, the best deals on just about every goods, except groceries, is found on the WWW (stands for World Wide Web). When you find that deal, it's hard to send cash through the phone, cable, or DSL line. Granted credit cards can be dangerous in the hands of someone who loves to shop, but we assume most adults are intelligent enough to practice restraint.
Finally, organizations. Not a problem for me. My #1 is my American Legion. I am very active in mine, family oriented, and we provide a service to veterans who even served in WWII. I would pay to belong to mine, oops, I guess I do. But I get benefits three times in return. There's the VVA, VFW, AFA, MCL, and so on. Whatever your fancy, there is an organization. Of course, my Gun Club brings me pleasure in abundance too.
Oh, just about all are recognized by the CMP as participating, allowing YOU and I to enjoy the fruits of our hobby, at a reduced cost too.
Not trying to be stubborn, just practical.

Thanks, maybe now there will be something left if I make it to retirement in 18 or 20 years! Most folks I know who are your age tell me how much they appreciate the money I'm paying into SSI.
