    I would just keep and use it as per original. I just don't see the point of modifying it to "get it to work better" if it already works in a satisfactory manner.

    If all goes well, I should get it transported home this weekend and get it running. Then I will have a better idea of what needs doing. But I expect that the differentials will need a check over. Seems to be a lot of backlash in the pinions.
    I'll keep you posted of progress.

    Keep in mind always, you are working with a vehicle about 76 years old. There is going to be a huge difference between what we are used to today in vehicles and what was normal in 1945. Not to say that it will break due to age, not going to happen, they were solidly built.
    Eg, all the grease nipples in the chassis, no alternator, mechanical fuel pump, vague steering, awesome aircon winter and summer, moribund windscreen wipers, synchro on the gears, max speed is 50mph, etc.

    I once had a "catastrophic failure" of the crown-wheel and pinion on the front axil of a Land Rover. There was a "hell of a bang" from the front axil.

    To be honest I am looking forward to working on a simple, well built old vehicle!
    My day job can get complicated on new vehicles; this will be fun and a chance to show my 11 year old daughter how a proper vehicle operates.

    Old cars are not new to me! I have been working on prestige cars for 40 years.

    They are so much simpler than the new stuff!

    Home safe thanks to a very generous friend who gave up his time at the weekend.
    It was a tight fit in the trailer, about 6 cm clearance each side!
    Now the fun starts; to get it running nicely.

    Just to update.
    I've got the Jeep starting easily and running well. Took it for the "Controle Technique" which is the Frenchicon roadworthy cert. It passed easily, so very happy with that.
    It was good to get out for a drive.
