If you have a tank going anyway, do all the metal as they were completely done. Coming along nicely.

Memorial Day weekend started off with a Big Bang. I have no idea how old it is, they have apparently been making this particular model for roughly 75 years. Likely more recent due to the warning sticker that people in the way back when were smart enough to know without having a warning.

    Today not much except this

    Medical Department creamer.

Antique Flea Markets today, the two I got nothing at last week just showing you never know. Mess Kit Day it appears. First item is a 1959 US mess kit with the tag still attached. First I've encountered. Weird it managed to survive missing Vietnam.

Then a very good condition self propelled gun by Midgetoy that has limited traverse:

Next stop looked like a bust again but decided to walk back the junk aisle of the last dealer and found two WWI mess kits with a fork and knife and a 1945 canteen all for $7.00. Mess kits both 1918, the J. W. Brown Manufacturing Co. (T.J.W.B.M. Co.) manufacturer, both are the same. The galvanization is very heavy in this area. Fork has a partial manufacturer but no date, the knife is 1917. Canteen, I forgot to photograph but is an AGM CO 1945.

And finally, something I've been watching for a while, but they've been way more than I wanted to pay. A hearth cook pot. This one appears to be manufactured by Waterbury Brass Co but it is not dated that I can see, the upper half of the stamp is missing. These were used extensively during the Civil War over the camp fires. Also in fireplaces so no guarantee it was used by the troops, but it remains a representative piece. At $28, I couldn't pass it up. Most are $70 and up and don't have surviving markings.

Mess knife by Landers, Frary and Clark, 1917. How many did they make anyway? Parts of the contract for fighting knives?

I have no idea on how many were made. Pretty sure all the contracts ended in 1918 as soon as the war was over. Information is limited as these are not as collected as the glamor stuff.

My day didn't end this morning. Hit a couple antique shops to our west this afternoon and found a beat up canteen in a corner. Wasn't sure what it was, first impression was Polish but turns out it's a P-44 Canteen and I'm not sure how I missed out on these all these years.

Tomorrow is the biggest yard sale/flea market of the year. I've had some outstanding years here and quite a few complete busts. The weather forecast is looking bad so likely not going to be a good day.

This one is Iraqi and based on condition a Desert Storm bring back. Condition matches the uniform items I brought back so I'm happy with it but will try to find a better example now that I know about them. Need a Britishicon one also.

Denmarkicon also used them and sometimes the Danish version is sold as or confused with the Britishicon Pat.44 canteen.

    DANISH/ BRITISH ARMY p44 1944 PATTERN CANTEEN dated 1954 | eBay

As I understand it the unmarked Pat.44 canteen cup which is often found, as per this example in my collection, is thought to be British, which I purchased for the Pat.44 canteen but haven't united the 2 items yet.

It would seem that the Dutch also used them.

Later edit, I found the article which I was thinking of which sheds a bit more light on the unmarked cups, if you scroll down the page.

Mixed bag today. The weather certainly held off but the weathermen scared a LOT of people out of setting up. Horror stories about rain for the past three days. Woke up this morning to everything being dry and blue sky showing through the clouds. But the flea market portion was only about half full despite having been completely sold out. Yard sales were about half as many as usual. I got one Britainicon toy cannon.

And the highlight of the day. I was talking to a fellow at one yard sale and he had a sign saying he had more sports memorabilia, just ask. So on a whim I asked him if he had any military items. This is what he came up with. I had to laugh, so did he and it came home for a dollar.

I did get a lot of gun books for free, most of them are on military arms, nothing super spectacular, older stuff.

A holy crap moment, I just looked up the first of the free books I got today, and the cheapest one is $195. The Black Rifle: M16icon Retrospective

    https://www.amazon.com/Black-Rifle-R...ps%2C75&sr=8-1

The rest are just run of the mill books, $3.00-$10.00.

It would be nice to know where all these wealthy people are on the internet, with bulging wallets, that can't wait to pay these sort of prices for things.
