Rock Island .45
Hi all,
A friend of mine is in need of funds and as offered me a .45 Rock Island 1911A1. It is new in the box and has only had 2 proofing rounds through it. It comes with a magazine and a 50rd. box of ammo. Thing is I'm not familiar with Rock Island made pistols. Anyone ever heard anything about them? He wants 300, good or bad?
Regards,
Rick

Unless it was made by Mattel, I wouldn't pass up any 1911A1 with ammo yet for only $300. Besides it's a private sale with no federal involvement.
With that said, don't add me to any mailing list where you might be attempting to sell a .45 that's turned into a chunk of rust.....

I've used the RI's and aside from not liking the out-of-box trigger I thought they were pretty good. Reliable and fairly accurate in spite of the trigger. They could use a bit of honing AFAIC.
They sell in the $400 range new, so a used, like-new pistol with a few goodies to sweeten the pie is a good deal for $300.
I hope you are aware that "Rock Island" is only a foreign trade name now? In spite of being made off shore I'd surely take it at that price.
I may upset the apple cart here, but I feel that the RI's are much better buys than the standard SA's as far as value to dollars goes.

RI
the only issue I ever had with an RI was one of them needed a ramp job to handle hollowpoints for some reason. I dont know if its a common probelm but I have had two and both were reliable. good deal I would say

Was just looking at RIA 1911's at the local dealer the other day along with numerous other brands. He claims he has had no complaints on them and has sold quite a few. IIRC the price was $459 or so. If I had the chance to buy one LNIB with some ammo for $300 I'd buy it pronto. They are not match guns but for the price seem to be a great buy for a basic shooter.

I have one and have had no problems with several types of ammo. It's the basic model and I bought it used.

I like my Rock Island 1911. The GI parts that I've installed on it fit OK.
I believe the "Rock Island" is Corregidor because this 1911 is fully or partly made in the Philippines. I'd buy it for $300.00.
