03A3 Rear Sight Install
What's the best way to install the rear sight and line it up on center? Does the base need to be drilled for a set screw or anything? Thanks.

Carefully tap the sight onto the dovetail from right to left, then tighten the set screw. Use a drift punch and keep it low on the base while tapping to keep from bending the ears.
If your base has no set screw, then you'll need to stake it in the center with a prick punch.
Hope this helps.

to add to what John said, its best if you take the new sight apart, that way when you bend it, you can straighten it out easy.
and it wont screw up the other parts, you may or may not need to stake it.
chances are if its a new sight, it will go on hard, and you wont need to stake it.

It was a brand new sight, and had no set screw. I took the entire sight appart and cleaned off all the grease. I then put the base on the rifle, and it took some good hitting with a hammer (and a towel between them) to get it on and eyeballed it on center then reassembled the sight. I figure even if it is a bit off center, I can adjust it horizontally with the knob.

There should be an index line on the sight that lines up with a similar line on the reciever if you want to be really precise.

sights should never be pounded on with a hammer, always use a pusher,
a dowl, brass, plastic, or wood works best. you will bend the sight base ears.
