Remington R1
http://www.1911r1.com/Products/Firea...el-1911r1.aspx
Not sure how many are aware that Remington is back in the 1911 business, making the R1 at their Ilion NY plant. There is one at the local gun shop, I held it and dry fired it, and it looked and felt pretty decent. I think they are retailing about $700 give or take.

What an odd combination of features. I like the vertical slide serrations, small safety, spur hammer, lack of big beavertail grip safety, and maybe the "diamond" checkered grips (if they aren't too oval in profile).
So why lower the ejection port and add the goofy little scallop behind it? Properly tuned, those features really aren't needed (esp. the scallop). Now it sort of looks like they couldn't make up their minds what they wanted to sell...(Oh, well, it looks closer to what I like in a functional 1911 than most, so I ought not complain! The serrations in particular I prefer to all other styles. Work well and aren't flashy.)
So, Ever so close to - like I need another....

I like it except for the big letters on the slide.

I posted a thread the other day on this. I saw one in my buddies shop and bought it on the spot. I like it, it shoots well, has a good feel. I am very happy with it, the large lettering on the side is a little much but I can live with it. It shoots very well, and I got it for 639.00

I agree that it seems like a real nice 1911. When I dry fired the one in the local gun shop, the trigger was pretty crisp. It felt real good in my hands. I liked the sights too. For the price I would buy it, but I am oversubscribed in the gun safe right now.

I have so many Colts and two RIA's for shooters, so I decided not to get one. I almost snagged one, but decided against it at the last second.

True, I have a 1911A1 RI that is an awesome and a tack driver. I added GI grips and a USGI mainspring housing. I have $400 in it.
