I recently bought a Lyman borescope from Amazon for about $250. They seem to be on perpetual backorder. So if you are curious about how they work, here are some pictures. The resolution is 320x240 so don't expect a lot of clarity, but you can see the general bore condition.
Just remember it's not a $900 Hawkeye or a $30,000 GE industrial, but it gets the job done well enough for $250.
The big lesson I learned is that a seller's description of " shiny bore with sharp lands" as "excellent" should always be taken with a grain of salt. I buy shooters not collectibles so I'm happy with what I have.
In order, the pictures are of the following firearms.
Pict0028 German P38
Pict0031 Mosin w/ hex receiver
Pict0033 French Mas 49/56 rearsenal
Pict0035 Japanese T38 Arisaka
Pict0039 Swedish M38 Mauser (Husky)
The magnification is pretty high on the pictures so the pits might look pretty bad, but they are all good shooters.Information
