Looking for a diagram for a WWI era handguard
I'm looking for a drawing or diagram that shows the shape of a WWI era handgaurd. The type that would be originally fit to a c1918 rifle with a 779XXX serial number. Since the originals appear to be quite hard to find and in my case harder to afford.
With my woodworking skills I was wondering it there was enough material on the later more commonly available styles to do some reshaping shortening up the sight groove and sharpening up the angle of the slope. So that I would endup with a more accurate shape for my rifle.
Since the rifle is being assembled with a Reproduction Straight Stock with Finger Grooves from Dupage Trading at this point. (later if funds appear I will seek out a proper original stock for it) I just want it to look as close as possible to 1918.
I buy firearms to keep so I am not worried about maximizing the value of the rifle. Just want it to look right.

WOW ALLEN I couldn't have asked for a better diagram to work from. Thanks
Just by luck even though some of the other photos are dated much later it appears to show the early style handgaurd I am looking for.

You can still find the high hump handguard with the fixture slot, collectors or dealers still sell or trade them. Also some repros are being manufactured too: try East Taylor LLC in Statesboro GA 30458 phone 912-839-4769, they had them listed at $75

I have some repaired ones I'll be offering a little later, too. Although I'm FAR from an experienced woodworker, it would seem to me that ytou'd have to add would to a later handguard, which would not be easy.
