It looks good to me. We have some real good experts on these that may think different. Don't take my word for it. If it is fake it is one of the better fakes.

Value is hurt by the beat marks on it. If it goes on a restoration, it better be a beater receiver or it will not match. I would pay $100.00 for it if I had a receiver for it to go on.

Looks good to me also. It has two of the characteristics I look for in real ones. As Bill said, if it is fake it is a good one.

The dealer, having had it in a parts box in his back room for many many years, agreed to sell it to me for the Princely sum of $5 + sales tax, of course!

So, I guess I did well and amortized out of the many really HIGH prices for other things I've bought there.

(BTW: At least one of my reference books (P.27 of U.S. M1 Carbines, Wartime Production, by Craig Riesch, 6th Ed.) says that ALL of the flip sights have the 'S' on the left side. - I don't understand why they used the letter 'S', but it is supposed to indicate the left side of the sight to the armorer that is installing it so that it is not installed backwards. It is not an indicator of the manufacturer.)

In the case of the sight above the square shaped S is also an indicator of the maker. Only the Lyman gun sight corporation (spelling) used that style S on their sights.

I have been receiving several PMs from members who are offering to buy this sight.

I never indicated that I wanted to sell it - I only was curious of the value of it just out of interest to see if it was worth the 5 dollars that I paid.

Therefore, it is NOT for sale!

(Unless I get offers for > $10,000 or more!)

It's original and by the way most, but not all of those square S sites were used by WRA. A few also show up on STD. PRD. carbines. I think $10,000.00 is a little high, but it makes your point. Bill

Seriously, I would have liked to see the carbine it was originally attached to. And I am curious as to why someone would remove it from the carbine in the first place. Too bad, history gone.
