What kind of target rear sight? Beware the L81 rear sights that have been fitted to No.4 rifles. Sarco sold them for years under less than honest pretenses. They required drilling of the axis pin hole to a larger diameter and drilling a hole for a spring loaded detent ball on the right side of the body for the windage adjustment screw. I've seen a few of the new condition No.4Mk.2 rifles permanently altered, (read f----d up), this way and it DOES hurt the value considerably in my humble opinion. If it has a correct P-H 5C, AJP 4/47 or 8/53 back sight attachment then that's a bonus.

Need pictures please.
There are several target sights and none were military issue. they vary from 1/2 MOA to 1/3rd MOA to 1/4MOA clicks depending on the model. There are also 303brit caliber sights and 7.62mm sights the latter will be marked as such the former not at all. If it has target sights the gun itself may have been modded for target work and its bedding may have also been changed, ie not military bedded anymore. To determine this, if you put your thumb on the front sight and grab the front end with your fingers and push sideways both ways and up the barrel should move freely. Push down and the barrel should not move if its military bedding and set correctly. If its target bedding the barrel will move in all 4 directions freely. Also on the front of the receiver has it been stamped with anything? eg Fultons, AJ Parker or parker hale? Looking at the muzzle is there stamping on the crown?
$650 sounds excessive unless its got something special but the 1/4MOA sights can fetch $200~250US+ on ebay alone. The big thing is the wear on the barrel, if it is worn out its worth nowhere near $650.

Go to Service and TArget Rifle Sights ~ Parker-Hale and B.S.A. for a superb compendium of Parker Hale Enfield sights. More than likely yours is in there. Please let us know which one it might be. BTW, in my area of the USA (mid-Atlantic states) $650 is a low price for an Irish Contract in Excellent condition. The $200-$250 estimate for the sight alone is pretty close to market.

I was afraid of that Steve. The rifle can be repaired by sleeving and soldering the rear sight axis pin holes. You have to fill in and touch up the ugly hole that was drilled for the spring and detent.
