He also has the European Theater Occupation Medal. In 1952, unless he had rejoined, he got it from the Vienna duty. I have one too from assignment to the Berlin Brigade- in the 80s it was one of the only ways to join VFW. Because so many Vietnam vets were turned off by them, they began to fade away (political clout and dues anyway) so we were canvassed pretty hard to join up. I turned them away then because of the way they treated my dad....

Looking at those men, there's not many medals, so not much service apparently. No CIBs Korea... We've had some of the same problems with our own Legion, which is the same as your VFW. They're less than stellar in many vet's eyes.
