They look like boxes for storing library books to me! The number doesn't register as a current VOCAB number.
Being made of ply wood and those infamous initials of MFI makes me think that they're modern and not necessarily MoD either
For you wild and unwashed colonials and heathen antipodeans out there in Forumland, MFI is a UK manufacturer of cheap utility furniture. It's usually flat-pack with loads of the correct fixtures and fittings missing too. Hence the initials, said to indicate 'minimal fuxxxng interest'

But if it was made by MFI, you would as usual expect cheap rubbish basically. These must way at least 30KG each and are well built also they have lots of metal reinforcements something else you wouldnt expect from MFI ?

No, you wouldn't expect it with the usual MFI stuff but if the Government spec says it will have X,Y and Z, then this is what it gets. MFI did make wooden chests (MFO boxes for example.......) for the MoD. That's only my guess though which is the best answer to date!

So the question is are they worth anything?

Well, it looks like it has $5.00 worth of flat head wood screws in it. And it's a cool conversation piece around the shop too.
