I'm sure in the rear area they just dumped the parts out just like this. Which weapons got what parts during reassembly was a crap shoot.

Guess that's where my CMP Springchester came from.

I am sure that as long as the guns went "Click - Boom" that was all that counted to them.

And that's all that counts on the line.
But years ago we were more concerned with new parts rather then if they were SA, WIN, IHC or HRA. We were just glad to have one. Now look at me all worried about one part left on mine that's the wrong year.

It would be nice to have them parts.

I remember the cleanup of M-14's at the end of basic training. We broke them completely down, dumped all the parts in a tub of Varsol and got after them with toothbrushes. Then we dried them, lightly coated them with oil, and reassembled the rifles. "Correct"? Yep. Guaranteed to have ALL the parts and guaranteed to shoot when you pulled the trigger.

Same drill happened at Fort Knox with armor crewman training and M1911A1's.

They would take the M14's to the showers and clean them with hot water after most the cosmo.was off and clean then again .

We had mass assembly-reassemble parties in ROTC. Spring - clean and cosmoline. Fall - degrease with alcohol, clean, reassemble. All 100 M-1 rifles taken apart, put back together at random.
