I was born a year later and enjoyed pretty good integration in neighboring Knoxville, TN. In 1970, my integrated inner-city Jr. High football team elected a black girl as our homecoming queen - entirely on merit.

PPS. It that the 2nd Armored "Hell on Wheels" device on the helmets? Notice that the fourth guy back is the only one exhibiting classic bayonet technique...

That is the old 30th Armored Division insignia on the helmets which TN was for many years on through the 60"s. By the way, the 30th insignia was worn over the left front pocket of the uniform whereas it was worn on the right sleeve by most every other division including Texas- I was in both of them.
