    A4 Question

A fellow collector recently aquired an A4 in a european auction. Its a bit unusual in that it has a small hole in the barrel guard about 3" forward of the receiver. There is no corresponding hole in the barrel. The barrel appears to have been replaced with an A3 barrel.

Has anyone ever seen an A4 or A3 demilled or perhaps modified for blank firing with a hole in this position?

This particular rifle also has Germanicon proof marks dating from 1978 on the receiver and barrel.

Any help or ideas are appreciated.

    Regards,

    Jim

Inside of guard looks like an oil stain. The color matches oil stain at rear of same guard. I can't comment on why the hole was put in the handguard.

    FWIW,

Chuck the rifle has been thru both Augusta and Ogden. It may well have gone to Germanyicon in a military aid package. I think the current barrel may have been added more recently.

The german auction site had three A4's - unfortunately they all had 'issues'.

    Regards,

    Jim
