1911a1 w/restamped Serial Number on Gunbroker
Questions for the experts. I read that sometimes a new serial number with an "X" prefix was stamped on frames during arsenal rework. Can this gun be one of those or just a botch job by Bubba?
1911A1 Remington Rand 45 WW11 : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com
Thanks,
Bill

I agree...
...Does not look like the military restamps I've seen. And the property restamping? The "X" looks like an after thought. Most restamps are X- 2 or three digits , not six or more , and really look hand stamped , not hand stamped trying to like it's not.

That hand stamped serial number, 2,081,281, if correct would be for a 1945 Ithaca, not Remington. Scary.

just a guess I do not much about USGI pistols but years ago could someone have ground out the serial because it was stolen from Uncle. Then someone else got a hold of it and stamped in a serial to try to make it legit

At this point, anything is possible. It's anyones guess why it is like it is now.

There is really no guessing involved at this point. Bubba did it ......

I would not touch that 1911 with your hand! Classic ground off serial number.

Wow!
Somebody paid $725 for that 'Thing' -
I bet the dealer danced a jig to get it off his hands.

Hummm....
....I wonder what an undercover BAFTE agent would pay to buy an illegally altered firearm from someone who should know better , in order to turn around and make an arrest and bust 'em? Maybe drag in the dealer who agrees to bring it in for him too? Just wondering and all , because we all know they'd never do that sort of things , to busy chasing real badmen who'd shoot at them and such , you know.
