My First Milsurp Rifle

Howdy Folks, I'm new here and I just was wondering if any of y'all could help me out. I just recently bought a 1939 Mosin Nagant, the marking on it are Izhevsk arsenal marks and other forums that ive been to said that it most likely saw action....I was wondering if there was anyway I could find out for sure if my rifle was actually used in battle? maye the serial number? just Thanks,

Did you ever see the movie, "Enemy At The Gates" There was a scene in the battle for Stalingrad where new troops were lined up at a truck. The first guy got handed a rifle, the second guy got a clip of ammo, and was told when the first guy got killed, to take his rifle and shoot the thing. I'm a guessing trying to verify battle use by a serial number won't work.

Serial numbers will not work and realistically every rifle that was produced did not see combat. Many of the Mosin's sold these days are factory reconditioned and while some parts on these may have seen combat, a completed rifle may or may not.

For example, I have a Russian captured 98k that has a huge section of the stock butt replaced and remnants of small burned areas around the hand grip. Was it used in combat? Maybe? or-was it just issued to a klutz who neglected to take proper care of it. Who knows?
