1928 date 1903 Springfield NRA Sporter...
I acquired this rifle yesterday at a gun shop from their consignment sales rack. The management said it was a typical sporterized military rifle and it was priced very reasonably. Looking at it I thought it might be something better than that so the rifle ended up coming home with me. Posting on another forum I was pleased to discover that it's a 1903 Springfield NRA Sporter and a kind gentleman provided me with a DCM sales date of 4/29. Next step will be to secure a copy of the sales ticket through SRS. I wonder if the buyer was the "Velma I. Lewis" e.p.'d on the side rail? Missing parts are the innards of the Lyman 48 peep scope and the transverse stock pin ahead of the barrel band. Modifications other than the stock checkering and Unertyl type scope mounts was the installation of a Timney trigger set to ultra hair trigger mode. Well here are some pics.

Great looking rifle - it should clean up very nicely with a little fine wool and oil. Now you need to track down a period Winchester or Unertl scope for it!

Excellent ... I'd start looking for the Lyman 48 rear sight first.

sweet, i like the mounts..they are the correct O and E mounts, and the right hight, they will let the bolt clear a scope,
a little Kroil, and a nickle will make the rust go away.
