    11-217 Garand Picture of the Day



    Battle for a ridge where a company of 2nd Bn., 5th Marines were held up for 48 hours. The drive was a success and the strong enemy forces were eliminated. This took place two miles north of Naha. Okinawa - May 1945

    Isn't that Marine wearing a different type of helmet? Or is it the perspective of the camera?

    I think the cover is draped down below the rim, making the profile look some what like a Germanicon helmet.

    I noticed it too. The visor almost looked like a Germanicon helmet from WWI. Even up close it's hard to make out, but I think he may have some foliage on his helmet or it's even a blemish on the photo, as well as the helmet cover causing a distorted perspective. The bush behind him may also be adding to it.
