AR 15 22LR dedicated Upper Receiver question
Anyone have information on the 22LR Uppers made by Chappa? Do they use the Blackdog brand of magazines? Thinking about buying one from SOG, Thanks, Bob B.

They use Black Dog, CMMG and Chiappa and Ceiner. If the mag resembles the full size mag, that is does not have a cut out in the top back of the mag it will fit.

Jim,
Thanks for the info, I already have some Black Dog mags and was hoping they work with this Upper. Also tracked down the Chiappa website and they have a special right now on these Uppers, $299 delivered, with 2 28 rd mags (where legal) or 2 10 rd mags. A slightly better deal than SOG that would charge 3% more for a credit card order plus shipping. SOG told me these are all metal except the handguards, but somewhere I read a review or posting that they are polymer with metal internals. I emailed Chiappa, then tried to call but the sales rep is gone to the Shot show until Jan 31, so I expect an answer anytime soon. Regards, Bob B.

I don't own one yet but I shall soon. I examined them closely and they have a polymer upper and metal bolt and working parts. They VERY closely resemble an M-4gery and I think they will be a bit better than using a CMMG insert and leading my barrel(a little). The Colts are worse because their mags are set up for the 22 lower and are not in ANY way the same as a Colt M4. NO parts interchangeable. At least Chiappa can go right on the lower I have. Also a flat top so you can put any minor optic you wish on it. Chiappas mags will fit a standard lower. I don't know what would happen with Colt mags. S&W are the same as Colt.

Jim,
That's what I thought, I didn't think the gal at Southern Ohio Gun knew what she was talking about, especially after doing more research. I'm going to order one directly from Chiappa. From what i just read on the Chiappa website in the Manual for this Upper I believe they are made in Italy. Thanks for the help! Regards, Bob B.

looks like most of the other manufactures set up......one note I checked out the owners manual and it looks as if there is no real ejector. So clearing a missfire or jam will take a little effort. I have the Tactical Solutions upper and LOVE it. I blast them pesky orange range rats @ 100y with my tasco red dot all day...bit more money though Tactical Solutions : Gunkings, 10-22 and AR15 parts and accessories
they have grown in popularity and so in price...I paid 499.00 with 2 mags shipped last year... I have the tacsol light

Shotgun News, the January magazine version, has a favorable wrightup on the Chiappa Uppers. Also Chiappa has a special price right now for LEOs and active or retired Military or military Veteran. $249 with 2 mags delivered in the USA. Can't beat that price, below dealer cost, no 3% CC markup, or tax if out of state. This upper is supposed to be here Friday but it'll be weeks before I get to the range, 70 mile round trip, to see what it can do. I've got a red dot or a 4x scope I can put on it, or get a rear sight, I like the iron sights on my A1 Upper and the A4 with Bull Barrel is scoped. Thanks for the input! Bob B.

I have heard they do not allow alot of these 22uppers on some "training" ranges as it takes to much to clear a jam or "clear" the weapon...As said the do not have a ejector..
These less expensive uppers where not around last year when I was looking. I would have tried one.
What I donr get is why they put the forward assist on ? its not functional also a not the bolt release is not functional on any 22 upper I have seen.
I checked out Chiappa 1911 in 22 its made of some sort of white metal. The dealer said zinc ? its light but not light like aluminum?????????
good like like to see it.

There are no "formal" controlled ranges where I'm at so pharting around to clear a jam wouldn't be an issue. The "pretend" Forward Assist is just another lump in the polymer to make it "look" like the real AR Upper I'm sure.
Thanks for the info regarding thier 22 1911, I was wondering about those. They aren't Calif legal yet as far as I know so I couldn't get one anyway. Think I'll stick with my Buckmark and also get a Ruger MkIII-someday.
The upper is supposed to be here Friday so I hope it shows up early enough for me to check it out before I leave for the weekend.
