Left hand should be wrapped tightly around the small of the butt in order to control the gun. I can see and hear it now...........

I tried that left hand on the small of the butt bit as like it says in the British training manual but I could not get the gun to stay where I want it to.
I sort of miss those days...when we spoke directly like that.

Maybe underhand would do it. Fingers together and pointing back at your shoulder on the outside of the butt. I too tried to use overhand but my cheek bone doesn't allow me to get past my knuckles. OR, you could get the handle and butt combination to hold it the way it was designed. I'm sure Peter can locate one in his store...somewhere.
Hi BAR, Being the Land Warfare Centre, part of the School of Infantry, this is very probably one of the last places in the western world where 'direct and meaningful' language can be used without offence. I say 'without offence' in the loosest meaning of the words. What I really mean is that nobody cares whether anyone is offended or not! But it is changing........
We went throught that touchy feely thing while I was teaching recruits at Wainwright Alberta. A place I'm sure you're at least aware of. UK has a workshop set up there for support of BATUS in Suffield. Anyway, we went from green giants in the early 80s to gentlemen in green by the 90s. Sad really, considering we were making killers... Those remaining soldiers today are the Staffies and W2s (MWO and Pl 2 I/C) in the sandbox.
If to be used as a lolly pop, do you use the whole bren gun in the hole or just the barrel? Could just use the hot spare barrel. The soldier can pretend to be a tripod.
Peter, I laughed so hard at your post above that it brought tears and I almost fell off my chair. Jeez!! Memories of Fort Benning too. Not the proper English wot you refer to but it got the same points across!!
