posting a 'this year" aquisition , no1 mkV

this is my most recently aquired rifle , and its probably my first thread start at this forum , meant to be more active when i registered but time slips away , i recognise some names and some others look vaguely familiar , hope its of interest to those who have not seen it elsewhere ,

    its a 1923 , mkV trials rifle ,

    its all matching

    with the right parts

and an interesting novelty of a correct vintage coin in place of the marking disc ,

it holds a place of prominence in my cabinet and has been fitted with correct sling , buttrap cleaning kit , and vintage P1907 bayonet

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Thumbs up

    Welcome back A square 10 ....

A beautiful piece and certainly a rarity.

I think there were only about 20,000 of these rifles made between 1922-1924.

I think while you were away we added one of these to the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here)

Yours is a 1923, whereas the one in the library is a 1924 ShtLE (Short Lee-Enfield) No.1 MkV Rifle (Mfg by RSAF Enfield) ........... click here.

    Regards,
    Badger

A quick question from a state side dummy, Is it common place to see a coin in the disc slot and is there any specific reason why someone would do that other than it looks really cool? I've seen this a lot with many guns and always wondered why, perhaps a dating tool or something?-SDH
