Hey everyone....I found one of these rifles in the local classifieds for sale...I want to go check it out....He is asking $150 and that includes some ammo...Is this price sound right to you?? What should I look for when looking at the rifle?? He says that it has the original stock....I want to shoot this rifle..It wont be a safe queen.....Any info would help....Thanks..Wes

If the rifle is in good, original condition and is numbers matching, that's a steal. Don't walk, run to buy it.

Look for bore and metal condition, and to see if the serial # on the bolt matches the receiver. If they don't match it will lower the value, but doesn't mean it's unsafe. $150's a great price for a Long Branch, even if it doesn't match.

You should be ashamed to pay that price for it when all others I see are going for $400.00 to $600.00. I should be able to smell your sneakers burning from here......go get it. Cheap at twice the price. Dave

Here are some pics of the #4 MK 1 for sale for $150.....It appears it doesnt have the original stock....Did they make this rifle with the stock in the pics?? It also appears to be missing the magazine....How hard is it to replace it??...I'm very new to milsurps so I really appreciate any info and opinions....Should I buy this rifle for $150??.......Thanks...Wes

$150 is too expensive for a sporterized LB. Offer $75 - that's what they sell for at the local shop in that kind of (shabby) condition. In other words, unless you're buying as a challenging restoration project, run - don;t walk, in the opposite direction of that.... thing.

I have purchased a few of these restoration projects in the past and usually end up regretting them. I do believe that $75.00 is lots to pay unless it has some redeeming qualities. You would need a new stock set at $200.00, at least, to get LB issue and a new mag which would be in the $50.00 range and then add any metal bits which are like hens teeth. Batter off in my opinion to wait for a complete example and pay the going price. Dave

Unless it has matching bolt and a 5 or 6 groove barrel and not drilled for scope I would think it is a bit expensive. I find them for $75 and if they are in good condition rebuild them and add them to my collection. I have recently finished a couple of them in the past few weeks and added them. I have a shortage of barrel bands especially the forward one. So if anyone has some lying around I would trade some stock parts for them.
I am thinking about restocking some No1's and have some stocks but one is for the 2A1 7.62 model. I received it last year and thought it was odd especially the butt stock. I have a 2A1 with new Lithgow wood on it so I will restore it to original.
