Fifty years on the old frontier
Have you ever heard of the "Aggate Fossil Beds" in north west Nebraska? In the early 1900's they found a deposit of fossils on the Agget Ranch south of Harrison Nebraska. The ranch was owned by Mr. James H Cook. Mr Cook was born in Minnisota and begain his adventure shortly after the Cival War at the age of 17. He went to Dodge City Ks were he joined one of the trail drive outfits spent 10 years or so driveing cattle over the trail from Texas to Kansas. Next he started hunting meat for the Cheyenne Wy. hotels and Union Pacific railroad dinning cars. He also took people from the east on guided hunts. after another 10 years he moved to Arizona and managed a cattle ranch during the Apache uprising. and acted as scout for the army. He then moved back to Wyoming and Nebraska and caught wild horses. In the late 1880's he started Agget Ranch. He was friends with Spotted Elk, and Red Cloud of the Sioux Tribe. They would come to his ranch in the summer and vist for several weeks. He was also aquainted with Sitting Bull and Dull Knife. He was also friends with Red Hawk of the Northern Cheyenne , that would also vist his ranch on a regular basis.. This book is of his experiances thoughts of the old west. And what has become of it.
