98K from SOG?

Just got my C&R license in December, so I am pretty new to this and am looking for some advice. I have been looking around at various websites for a WWII 98K as its next on my personal "to buy" list. Southern Ohio Gun has them listed at their website for around $280, which is a good $30 cheaper than anyone else. Is there something wrong with these? Are they covered in rust or has woodrot set in? Would I be better off buying from another site such as Allans Armory? Just wondering if anyone else has purchased a 98k from SOG before and what they thought.

Ohio, welcome aboard. One reason the SOG price is lower is that the German proof marks may not be intact. I purchased a K98 from wideners for $320.00 and it has all of the German markings intact. The wideners rifles are re-arsenal Russian captures. I am extremely happy with mine, and it shoots great. Good luck with your purchase, I received my C&R a few months agao and now I have 2 Mosins, 1 Nagant, 1 Carcano, and 1 Mauser.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I figured that most of what we can find online are going to be RCs, that is cool. But still I would like one that you can see a bit of the history on it (proof marks etc.) So that may rule out SOG. So far in my collection I have a MN 91/30, a Nagant M1895 and a Enfield No. 4. Figured the Mauser was the one to get next, its amazing how fast these things multiply!
