Lovely stuff, you would want to take your lunch and just stand there in front of some of those cases for a bit.

WOW! Thanks for posting... wasn't there a story on the recovery of #1? If I find the story, I will link to it.
Yep, lotsa history there!!!

Supposedly, #1 was found, issued to a Doughboy in France during WWI. I also heard that the finish was damaged in a fire many years ago.
Never seen #1000000 - that was interesting!!

Those seem to be new displays. I went there in 2004 when they still had the "100 Years of the M1903" exhibit. The rifles were in a rack like you might see behind the counter at a dealer's place and you could get no closer than 4 feet to them. The area was poorly lit and about all you could see was the "bottom" of the rifles from the way they were positioned. The workers refused to let me behind the ropes, but did let me borrow a flashlight. I was leaning WAY over the ropes and shining the light at things I wanted to look at. They must have thought I was a strange bird indeed. Thanks for the pics !!! You can show all you want to, just post them like the above ones. Or you can create an "album" where they can be viewed.
Thanks again,
Emri

As far as displays go, they are all locking, glass enclosed cases with their own internal lights. I added some pics to show the cases. Definately far from "old gunstore" vertical racks.
Serial #1 on display with some literature.
Pederson devices on display.
I was almost overwhelmed when I walked in. Didn't know where to start. Nice displays. Well lit. Taking pictures through the glass was a challenge, for I only had a Sony Cybershot PAS camera. Had to take pictures at an angle to avoid flash back from the glass. Only one elderly gentleman that worked there even knew what a gun was. The rest of the staff were not knowledgable (cutbacks). In trying to absorb everything I overlooked some things. Will definately be going back. In all I spent about 2 1/2 hours there. Well worth the 40 mile drive from my house. I have been in contact with a moderator and have burned a disc with the pictures on it to send him. He will then put up a pictoral essay so all can see. approx. 250 pictures. Enjoy the samples.
