New M1 owner with a problem

    Hi,
I'm a new M1icon owner with a problem. I picked up a very nice condition M1 that's all SA except for the WRA safety. The front handguard seemed a liitle loose, but folks here said that was normal. After cleaning and greasing it, I took it to the range and with the first shot the whole front site assy/gas tube flew off!

Well, I took a look at it and it appears that the Gas Cylinder Lock is took big for the barrel threads. The threads engage and you can screw it on, but when you get to the last part of tightening it pops on the threads.
Are there various sizes for this part? If yes, where do I get one?
My Gas Cylinder Lock has an "M" on it and is a greener reparkerize than the barrel. The barrel number is: SA 6535448 11 63 Y42 P M

    Thanks,
    Craig

They are all supposed to interchange. Either the lock, or the barrel threads are partly stripped. If the rifle were mine I would first try a different gas cyl. lock. If it is the barrel threads you do have a real problem.
