1911 Colt
I have a 1911 Colt that I would like to learn more about. I have owned it for about 15 years or so. It has a 5 digit serial # starting with 63 and says property of US government. Model of 1911 U.S. Army. It has a lanyard ring as does the clip and I have the lanyard also. What can you tell me about it. Any idea on the value for my ins. Co would also be helpful. Thanks Pop

With the serial number I could tell you when and where it was shipped. It was originally blued, but appears to be phosphate finished now. The grips look like post WWII Colt.

Looks like a ww2 rework and the grips are commercial 1960,s. You need to get a pair of ww2 G.I. take off grips. http://www.Simpsons LDT has take off grips. Your 1911 is worth between $700 to 1100 depending on cond. and matching slide to frame manufacture range.
