Help with Stock Search for Lithgow SMLE III*
Hey guys,
I'm an infrequent poster here, but lurk fairly often. I'm looking for a replacement stock for a rifle I recently purchased. The wood was heavily sanded and a brass plaque was inletted into the stock. The stock has the following cartouches: MAO SMLE III* HV 1945 on the right side. The rest of the wood, though heavily sanded, is useable. Please give any recommendations on where I might look for a replacement stock.
Thanks in advance for your kind assistance!

Thanks for the great tips! I had never heard of Liberty Tree Collectors - what an outstanding resource!
My stock has been stained and I'm having some trouble identifying what type of wood it is. Could you tell a bit about Coachwood?

Ill do my best. Even fine long grained wood (appears similar to birch without the figuring) prone to splitting on the forend (search for lots of posts here on that issue).
If your forend is in tact you are way ahead of the game. In addition to LT and BDL Springfield sporters used to have some Aussie bits as well.
Photo shows Coachwood upper hand guard atop Birch Forend. I am still experimenting with stains to get a better match.

Wood Varieties
Thank you for posting the photo and additional description. I do understand the complexity of trying to describe something as difficult as wood grain, so I do appreciate your efforts!
I've noted no splits in the forend, so that's quite positive. Is it common that birch have those sort of "tiger stripes" perpendicular to the grain? I've seen that in other rifles (Swedish Mausers for example) that I had assumed were beechwood.
Thanks again for your kind efforts!

I think I am going to try the Air Art Aviation XX from Brownells or the Chesnut Ridge and try for a more uniform match between the various pieces.
