How do I remove dried adhesive from a stock?
Howdy,
I just bought a nice stock form my NPM from What a Country . There was a old very well dried out piece of masking tape measuring about 1 3/4 square under forearm. I was able to remove the tape itself but as you would imagine the well dried adhesive is still there. How do I remove the dried adhesive without disturbing the origional finish under it? The stock is absolutely beautifull.
Im sorry if this subject has been covered in the past, I tried to use the search function but came up empty, I have a feeling that Im not wording my search properly.
Any help you can give me is appreciated.
Thank you,
John

Did it look like this?
Must be a "What a Country" Trade Mark. I bought a T2 Winchester about a year and a half ago that looked like this.
I wiped it down "lightly" with "0000" steel wool and mineral spirits and it came right off.
+1 on "What a Country" I got the Inland & Winchester from there. Very Happy with them.

Denny

go to home depot and get a product called "goof off" or "oop's" in the paint department it is basically a high strength citris acid, that wont take of the oiled surface. or you can go to a auto body supply store and get adhesive remover

WD40 also works and won't harm the finish. Spray on, let soak, use a rag wet with more WD.

Wow thank you for all your help, I really appreciate it.
I cant say enough about how good What a Country treated me. They are extremely friendly helpfull and professional. I cant say enough good things about them. It makes me wish that I had another carbine that needed a stock.... Wait! I have an idea... maybe I should nab another carbine
Thanks again for the help!
