Does anyone know what this is?

A little off subject here guys, but I know a lot of you can identify Antiques. I picked this up off of a trash pile about 25 yrs ago while working. It was in the vicintity of Southern Pacific Railyards Station. What I want to know is, is this an old railroad lantern or a Ship's Lantern. Every part on it is Brass except for the wooden handle. And it has a missing bracket on one side that goes to the handle. The wooden handle did not show up in my pics, and I'm too lazy to take another.

I have seen examples of this type of lanterrn to be attributed to Polish train lantern's of the 1920's and WWII Germanicon train lantern's of the 1940's era. Also, I know of other examples that closely resemble ship lanterns. Take a close look at your lantern and see if there are any markings that might determine a maker or source of production.

Naptha/coal oil lamp. Not necessarily a RR lamp though.
    Spelling and Grammar count!
