Trueflight accuracy?
I have the rattiest longbranch I ever did see, but under those hand guards lies a brand spanking new, 20 rounds, stainless trueflight barrel. It was fitted by the Trueflight team, whoever they are, and it appears to be significantly fatter than the stock no4 barrel. It appears to be 4 or 5 groove, a bit like a microgroove to look at.
Question is; do I make this a wolf in sheep's clothing? What kind of accuracy compared to a stock enfield could I expect?
Lets be theoretical and assume the rest of the rifle is perfectly set up in a good stock etc, all factors except the barrel being the same, what kind of accuracy improvement can I expect?
How about if I get to hand loading with good quality 150gns?

True flight barrels are highly regarded by target shooters here in Asutralia. In saying that it depends what is flavour of the month but Trueflight have had there day and probably will again if a top shooter takes out a couple of titles with one screwed into his action, everyone will want one then.
Is the muzzle end been colored to the original blue/black?
It sounds liek it could be a range rifle built
Is it 7.62mm /
cheers

Realistically, I think it's going to come down to finding the bullet (and powder) combination that this particular barrel prefers. I struggle to make an L42a1 consistently a sub MOA rifle, but sometimes they do a five or ten shot group around 3/4 MOA. The next time out, there will be the start of a screaming 1/2 MOA group, and then one or two will "leak out", making a 1 or 1 1/2 MOA group. (On the rare occaisions that I'm doing "serious" bench work, at any rate...)
Sooo....If you can get a .303" combo to do consistant 1 to 1 1/2 MOA groups, DON'T change a thing! Anything under 2 MOA ain't bad.
Sounds like fun finding out, though! I LIKE "sleepers".

It's TRUE-FLITE & made in New Zealand. I think they have a pretty good reputation.

We import True-Flite into Canada. They are a first class barrel (or we wouldn't sell them)!!

Just to make life easier for those of us who don't know Mr. Ian Robertson ( I don't), here's a link to his web site:
Rpbertson Composites Inc.
Also, his "old" but apparently still functional site:

I'll put my money with Jmoore, and say anything under 2 MOA is great, and that other factors will stop you realizing groups much better than about that or a bit less if you're lucky. Best barrel, best bedding, best outfit all round I don't think you'll ever get a rifle No4, in .303, in full wood that is an honest reliable sub MOA performer through a 10 shot string. You might, but I'd like to see it.

But this is the internet! You ain't nobody unless your rifle shoots sub-MOA. Actually, it seems that that "modest" standard is too big anymore...

I got a 5 round sub 1 inch group at 100 yards with my mismatched LB with PH5 sights the first group I shot with it. I thought I was awesome! I thought it was awesome! It never happened again though, not anything like it. I never ever replicated the completely relaxed "just fire 5 in a row to see what happens" type of shooting ever again and that has the biggest effect of the results.

I second JM and T bones comments, I am always playing and in stock condition with issued sights, that's about it.
In target configuration though, well that's another ballgame.
